So What Is The AC Cobra?
The Shelby AC Cobra is car shrouded by legend. Combing British engineering the ‘AC Ace’ with American V8 firepower built by Carroll Shelby the Cobra was born.
The engine grew from 4.3 litres to 7.0 litres with the infamous “427cu” pumping out 485bhp which at the time is outrageous. The Cobra held the Guinness World record for the fastest car for 20 years on the trot until the Porsche 959 came along. Shelby would demonstrate the sheer speed by pinning a $50 bill to the windscreen and telling his passengers if they could reach it, they could keep it! I think we all know the result.
The Cobra was developed by Ken Miles who nick named it ‘The Turd’. We all know that name from Ford Vs Ferrari and we all know it would be Shelby and Miles that Ford turned towards to develop the GT40 to beat Ferrari at Le Mans.
Our Cobra is a modern recreation of the legend, now with a 4.3l V8 with electronic fuel injection and a standalone ECU, giving it a more precise and smoother power delivery. Not only does it perform well in the straights but now the corners too.
